Day 5 - The Other Family, Errands, Zoo, and el Centro
We started out our morning with breakfast at a lovely restaurant overlooking the city. We met Sergio's half sister, Raquel and her daughter Ana Lisa. "You have a sister?" David asked his father in shock when he heard our plans. Yup, surprise! You have 6 other aunts and uncles that you've never met, David! Raquel is the youngest of the kids from Sergio's father's first marriage.

After breakfast, our plan was to head to Antigua Guatemala for the day, but after running a few errands with Tio Carlos, which included meeting Pamela at the fanciest mall I've ever seen in Latin America, then accompaning her to the police station to get some clearance for her new job application, while Carlos dropped off orders for his company. By the time we were ready to head to Antigua is was noon, so David, Sergio and I went to the Aurora Zoo. After just a few pics, the camera battery died :(. But we had a great show in the macaque japones put on a great show. The baby monkey, David, kept chasing his older brother (Ito, perhaps?) around the cage, much to the teenager's annoyance. The other cage had Gadi, Matthew and Sergito chasing each other in a great game of tag.

At the zoo, I had my first taste of Pollo Campero. We then walked around the Artesans' Market and previewed what we wanted to later buy in Chichicastenango. We tried to go the the Archaeology Museum, but it was closing in 30 minutes, and it cost 5x as much for David and I to get in, since we not "nationals", although technically if we are the spouse and son of a national, we should be nationals...

We then took the bus downtown and saw the Palacio Nacional (the camera worked for one last shot) and then went to drop in on the Secretary General, whose daughter went snow boarding with us in Keystone (don't I sound fancy?).
During our journey, Sergio showed us his daycare, his high school, Karen's former apartment building, and where we thought the Baha'i Center was (it moved about a month ago...)We ended the day by heading to the house where Sergio grew up and where Carlos now houses his business. Carlos and Sergio shared crazy childhood stories and we looked through photo albums.
It was a lovely day, and we arrived at Carlos's late and exhausted.
