Travel to and arriving in Guatemala

I took advantage of our last few US cell phone minutes to call Amanda and Timur and congratulate them on the birth of their daughter, Elsa.
We had a layover in Mexico City, where it was raining. We got off the plane on the runway and had to take a bus to the terminal. We sat around the terminal for a couple hours. And then, right before we were supposed to board our flight to Guatemala, we thought to ask someone what to do with the immigation forms. Apparently, even though we never left the airport, and the gates were right next to each other, we need to go through immigation. So, I guess, techincally, we entered Mexico and then exited it. Silly. But we ran to immigation, got our papers stamped and ran back just in time to get on the plane. Hmph. What a silly system. You'd think they would have pointed us towards immigation the minute we walked off the plane!
David spent his time on the plane diligently drawing. I'm jealous - I should have brought a journal too! Must get to a store to buy one.
We arrived in Guatemala around 10:30pm, and Carlos (Sergio's brother) and Abuelita were waiting for us. Our bags were the last to come off the plane, of course!, but at least they came and no one asked to open them. So, out we went though a very modern airport (so much nicer than Mexico, which was crowed and ugly...) and exited excited to meet our family.
